Almost a year ago, hip hop community lost Fred the Godson. On February 22, the great MC was honored with a street naming on his birthday. The Bronx honored him by co-naming the corner of Leggett Ave and Kelly Street after him. So hip-hop industry comrades, family, friends, Bronx community and fans are making sure that his legacy will be alive.
The rapper passed away in April 2020 due to COVID-19. On a snowy Monday hip hop community showed love to the late rapper.
“Shortly after Fred’s passing, the Fred The Godson Foundation was created to carry on his legacy for his children and family, and the commitment to his dreams for the Bronx,” says the foundation’s mission statement. “The mission is to inspire, empower and nourish individuals, children and families in underserved communities, starting with Fred’s birthplace. The foundation will foster community unity through the common pursuit of wellness, prosperity, and opportunity.”
The ceremony featured Fat Joe, Sway Calloway, Jim Jones, Mysonne, DJ Bobby Trends, and Ruben Diaz, Jr.
