Criticism in music industry is nothing new but when it comes from a peer and a friend it can led to something drastic. T-Pain who’s known as giving birth to auto-tuned music and giving style to breed of artists we see today has to share some of those criticisms too.
Appearing on Netflix’s latest documentary ‘This Is Pop, 35 year old singer and rapper revealed known hitmaker Usher’s criticism of his music led him to four years of depression.
“Usher was my friend. I really respect Usher. And he said, ‘I’m gonna tell you something, man. You kinda f‑‑‑ed up music.'” says T-Pain “And then he was like, ‘Yeah man you really f‑‑‑ed up music for real singers,’” he remembers. “I was like, ‘What did I do? I came out and I used Auto-Tune.’ He was like, ‘Yeah, you f‑‑‑ed it up.’ I’m like, ‘But I used it, I didn’t tell everybody else to start using it.'”
T-Pain revealed how Usher’s remarks affected him in years to come “That is the very moment, and I don’t even think I realized this for a long time, but that’s the very moment that started a four-year depression for me.”
