Kendrick Lamar’s return to rap last month with his protege Baby Keem on their hard-hitting collaboration ‘family ties’ was received very well by fans. As far as his contemporaries go, Tyler, The Creator has some amazing words for Compton rapper in his latest interview with XXL Magazine.
Tyler says explaining how much he has been impressed as well inspired by Kendrick’s killing verse on family ties “You know why it ruined me? Because it’s someone at that level still gunning,”
The Creator praises Kendrick’s talent. “He’s trying new voices. He’s trying new s-t. He’s still learning. You can tell he was off his phone for a few months.” Tyler also claims he’s been calling up Kendrick every two days to talk about that verse where Kendrick rapped “smoking on your Top fives tonight”. Tyler also credits Kendrick’s verse burned a fire in his back to “just stay weird and stay tryin’.”
Among the praises, Kendrick has to face some resistance too as earlier this month Freddie Gibbs responded to Smokin on the top-fives bar with “They sayin’ they smoking top fives, But you ain’t burned up the one/Uh, f-k n—as talkin’ ’bout?
