Aminé Recalls First Time Meeting Kendrick Lamar, Calls Him ‘Yoda’

On Nov. 24th Complex published an interview with an American rapper and songwriter Adam Aminé Daniel. In a long interview, Aminé talked about his mental health, the creation process of his sophomore album “Limbo” and meeting one of the biggest rappers of our generation, Kendrick Lamar.

The interview starts with the 27-year-old rapper looking back at the “darkest” period he went through in 2020.

“I was so depressed in 2020, dude. I didn’t even care if I had an album out. I didn’t come out of bed for like a week” adding: “It was draining for me creatively because it wasn’t so free-spirited. There was a lot of planning because I was trying to make this big grandiose thing. I was in a very serious state of making music.”

Later in the interview, Aminé recalled the first time he meet Kendrick Lamar back in September, at the New York Fashion Week. The Portland rapper didn’t think that Compton Master MC would know who he was but turns out, Kendrick is paying attention to the young upcoming rappers.

“Kendrick walked up to me, and I wasn’t going to say, ‘What’s up,’ because I didn’t think he would know who I was, so I didn’t want to annoy him” remembered Adam. “he walked up to me, and he was like, ‘Yo, I f*ck with the creativity in the videos. I really f*ck with your shit.’ He was talking to me in a very serious voice. It was like Yoda telling you that you’ve got the right path or something. It was sick. I was at a loss for words.”

To get this kind of compliment from one of the biggest rappers in the world has to be dreamlike, especially when you’re tripping on mushrooms like Aminé was that day.

“We were all high on shrooms, so we were just like, ‘What the f*ck? This is crazy”

Adam also shared what he felt in that moment, calling the experience “funny” and “intense”

“It was so much more of an intense thing because it was him. It was really funny,” he said.
