Kanye West recently spoke with Jason Lee on Hollywood Unlocked
The 45-minute interview covers everything from the narrative going around about his mental health to his divorce from Kim Kardashian. Providing several noteworthy statements along the way, Ye remembered instances such as being refused entry to Kim’s residence due to Pete Davidson’s presence and even discussed the infamous Kim K and Ray J sex tape.
Kanye talking about the custody battle
Kanye spoke about his custody struggle with Kim throughout the conversation. Ye has strong feelings regarding the way custody issues are resolved in the United States, particularly the fact that women receive the majority of legal custody.
He narrated the incident of how security at Kim’s property stopped him when he was visiting their children, prompting him to seek his relatives for assistance.
“Earlier this week, on Monday when I went to go pick my kids up from school, the security stopped me at the gate. So at that point security was in-between me and my children and that’s what was not gonna happen” said Kanye. Ye continued this conversation, saying that he had the same problem later that day: “Took my kids to school, then took my kids back. I bring them back and North is like ‘I want you to come upstairs and see something and it’s like ‘Daddy can’t come inside and I’m hearing that the new boyfriend [Pete Davidson] is actually in the house that I can’t even go to and that’s why I call my cousins.” Kanye claimed that he involved his cousins so they would speak with Kim because he didn’t want to get into any trouble.
Ye revealed the two main things he asked his cousins to discuss with Kim: “There are two things I said. Tell her the security not gonna be in-between me and my kids and also tell her don’t have my daughter wearing lipstick on Tik Tok and don’t have her on Tik Tok at all if I don’t approve that.”
Kanye further discussed the custody battle saying, “The American mindset is 99 percent female custody.”
He also claimed people are trying to paint him as crazy. “My expectation is to say, ‘Look, we ain’t gonna be playing these little games.” Adding, “If I scream or react or something it’s like ‘look at him his crazy.’ I wasn’t crazy when I put the creative director at SKIMS [KIm’s clothing brand], I wasn’t crazy when we made two billion dollars.”
“It’s nothing with my career, with this rap, with this media, with none of it, that’s gonna keep me from my children. That’s what I want everybody to know. Don’t play with me, don’t play with my children, and ain’t no security is gonna get between me and my children,” said Ye.
Kanye refutes claims that he “tricked” Drake into attending a ‘Verzuz’-style battle with the “Free Larry Hoover Concert.”
Kanye and Drake put their differences aside for the Free Larry Hoover charity concert towards the end of last year, but some fans claimed that Ye “tricked” the Canadian rapper into doing a Verzuz-style gig.
“No I did not,” said Kanye when Lee suggested that the Larry Hoover concert was the way of him tricking Drizzy into a “Verzuz” style battle. “This man[Drake] wrote my setlist,” Ye added.

Discussing cancel culture and wearing the MAGA hat
Kanye received a lot of flak for wearing Donald Trump’s famed MAGA (Make America Great Again) hat, which became a huge talking topic for years. Lee pointed out that, despite the fact that he and Kim both publicly supported Trump, he was the only one who received criticism, whilst Kim was nearly praised.
“It’s really my fault that I get sh*t on like that,” said Ye, “Because I wanna get credit for being the first to do something but then if you’re the first to do something you’re the one to get sh*t on.”
“Cancel cancel culture bro,” said Ye. “Obviously as a celebrity, there’s a lot of people that are around me that can influence me and no human being is immune to their surroundings. There are a lot of people around Kim that can influence her. You know she is making certain decisions, she is just looking for safety, and a safe place to be because I do these ideas where like, man, if I am the only person that is not with Hillary, then she is getting like, attacked so much, telling me I can’t wear the hat. And she just as a woman wants security and comfort. You know what she’s ultimately like is just for her husband to play the role of what’s happening in Hollywood already but that’s not the case. You got the Ye and I’m just here to improve on the situation.”
When questioned if he had considered why people were unhappy over the MAGA hat, he said: ”
“I wore the hat for the freedom of opinion. You know, my mom was born into a drinking fountain, she was told what fountain she could drink in. My family fought for the right to vote, and I fought for the right to choose who we vote on.” He also discussed people’s feeling on the hat and said he understands the criticism he got: “I will say I take responsibility for the fact that is hurt people’s feelings. And I also say, I believe now that, people, not just black people but people across the board they’re realising like, ‘Yo, you have to let Ye be Ye.”
He later added: “What’s the point of fighting and winning to vote if you gotta defend who you’re gonna vote on”
Kanye also touched on wanting to become a president one day and said that he has not given up that dream yet.
“I am a future president, It might not be two-three years from now, but ain’t never been a situation I went in that I didn’t make better. I’m an industrialist, I opened the first sportswear factory in America since World War II.”
Kanye claims he was the one who he got and delivered a laptop to Kim with the s*x tape of her and Ray J
“ So this is for anybody who’s going through a separation and people intentionally do things to be mean and hurt you,” said Ye, “How you gonna bring me to SNL and kiss the dude[Pete Davidson] you dating right in front of me? And everybody’s like ‘Oh that’s cool.”
The Chicago rapper than revealed that he personally “went and got the laptop from Ray J” that had the infamous Kim Kardashian s*x tape in it. “I met this man at the airport then got on a red eye. Came back, delivered it to her at 8 am in the morning and then I gave it to her and she cried when she saw it,” said Kanye, “You know why she cried when she saw that laptop? It represents how much she has been used. It represents how much people didn’t love her and they just saw her as a commodity.”
