Westcoast superproducer DJ Quik let some thoughts out of his chest on Twitter yesterday. The veteran producer expressed in a series of tweets that he deserves to be on the same status as Dr. Dre.
DJ Quik said in his first tweet he deserves to be in the same status as his own city’s iconic figure Dr. Dre, he adds it’s unfair and that there’s no “machine” to promote him.
In the following tweets, Quik made it clear he has no interest in disrespecting Dre, ” I love Dr. Dre, like a big brother, one I never had. It pains me when people pit us against each other.” said Quik
DJ Quik has been active since the late 1980s and is known for G-funk Style production, he has also collaborated with some huge names in Westcoast like Tupac, Eazy-E, Snoop Dogg, and more. He has also worked on Dr. Dre’s mythical album Detox. In his final tweets, the 52-year-old producer concluded that he’s content with watching his artists shine and this isn’t meltdown, “I’m just expressing myself as neutrally as I can.”
I know it’s early. But I deserve to be where Dre is. I don’t think it’s fair, but I understand why. I’ve never had a machine behind me, that always hurt my friends more than it did me.

This doesn’t need to be on a podcast. Because you have fire starters, who want to spin everything to get more ratings. But the truth is: I love Dr. Dre, like a big brother, one I never had. It pains me when people pit us against each other.

There is no automatic winning lottery ticket for everyone Periodt. On this planet, you get what you get. But it’s what you do with what you have been given to work with that makes you a star.

I know I’ll never be as popular as I need to be, but I have 10s of artists superstars! And when they shine, I just smile. The janitor doesn’t get all the glory, but he keeps the backstage, clean as a triage.
