Harlem-based emcee Big L’s name will always be amongst the promising Rappers lost too early list. On the occasion of skilled Rappers’ 24 years passing his official Instagram which is managed by his estate has confirmed that Big L full name Cole Lament was just days ahead of officially announcing his signing with Roc-A-Fella.
It’s always been a rumor that Jay-Z’s co-founded label was about to sign Big L but the latest post shared by Big L’s estate includes a voicemail inviting people to the party and a flyer commemorating the signing with Roc-A-Fella.
Big L’s estate shared the post with a caption detailing “This voicemail was sent out to everyone for the party that was set to commemorate the signing of Big L becoming a Roc a fella / Flamboyant Entertainment Artist. The plan was for L to sign his deal with the Roc along with Mcgruff, Stan and C-Town. The name of the group was going to be called “The Wolfpack”. Unfortunately 3 days before the event Big L was taken away from us”
Big L was killed in a drive-by shooting in the face and chest nine times on February 15th in his native Harlem, his childhood friend Gerard Woodley was arrested three months later for the crime. In an interview with Vibe Magazine Big L’s brother said “Right before he got killed, L was with Jay-Z every single weekend, and Jay wanted to sign him solo but Big L insisted on bringing his artists as well.
