On February 24, 2025, rapper Tory Lanez was recording new music via a video call from the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi when a prison riot erupted nearby. In footage obtained by TMZ, Lanez is seen delivering lines such as, “$500 on the Zelle will make ’em do gymnastics,” before being interrupted by the commotion. He momentarily leaves the call, stating, “Ayo, they sprayed the pepper spray. I gotta go,” before the session ends abruptly.
Despite serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, Lanez has been actively working on new music from prison. Prior to this incident, prison officials confiscated his recording equipment, leading him to announce the discontinuation of his “Prison Tapes” series.
