If there’s one thing that Top Dawg Ent. is going to do every December, it’s show up for the LAnd every year with the TDE Christmas concert and toy drive.
On Thursday (December 17), hundreds of community members, LA natives, and even transplants flooded Nickerson Gardens in Watts to see some of their favorites hit the stage in honor of the holiday season and to give back. The lineup included Ab-Soul, Lance Skiiwalker, SZA, Jay Rock, Ray Vaughn, Sir, and, of course, special guests for an extra treat.
Snoop Dogg and Dr.Dre came through with a legendary performance together, which included bops like “Next Episode” and “California Love.” Mario popped in after completing his US tour and performed hits like “Just A Friend,” “Crying Out For Me,” and “Let Me Love You” to bring in some R&B vibes. Keeping the lover mood alive, Monica took us back to the ‘90s with “One of Them Days” and “So Gone.”
Although Kendrick Lamar wasn’t on the official lineup, when that “Squabble Up” beat dropped without warning, and his shadow appeared, the crowd instantly went crazy. Next, “30 for 30” and here comes SZA in her signature big curly hair and angelic voice to balance out the moment. Keeping the energy high, they seamlessly transitioned into “Luther,” and Dot made his exit to give SZA the stage alone, and she chose to share it with a lucky teenage fan to do one of her biggest hits, “Snooze.”
The free event, organized by TDE founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, required attendees to bring an unwrapped toy for entry, which would be distributed to children in Nickerson Gardens the following day. Families will also be able to participate in a variety of family-friendly activities, including games, raffles, and more.
In the backstage, Kendrick Lamar told Chef Boy: “We got one coming!! say less.” Is Kendrick about to drop? Watch the video below:
