Drake’s ICEMAN has quickly become one of the most talked-about projects in hip-hop, with several rappers putting their own spin on beats from the album.
One of the first to do so was Lucki, who celebrated his 30th birthday on May 29 by releasing a freestyle over the haunting production of “Plot Twist.” In the accompanying video, the Chicago rapper delivers laid-back bars while counting cash and enjoying a birthday dinner with friends.
Another fan favorite from the project is “Janice STFU,” where Drake fires back at his critics. Lil Tjay recently jumped on the synth-driven instrumental, using the track to vent about issues ranging from internet trolls targeting his mother to frustrations with untrustworthy relationships.
“Shabang” has also emerged as one of ICEMAN’s standout records. On the energetic, ad-lib-heavy track, Drake takes shots at Kendrick Lamar and critics rooting against him. Lupe Fiasco later reworked the beat for his “CliqueBang” freestyle, where he addressed a viral concert moment in which he was seen confronting the crowd after forgetting lyrics during a performance.
Meanwhile, Conway The Machine put his own touch on “Make Them Pay,” delivering a reflective freestyle over Drake’s melodic production. In his verse, Conway opens up about contemplating surgery for his facial paralysis and explains why he has chosen to distance himself from people he no longer trusts.
